This week I attended a Stimulus Training Program. Scott Sheely of the Lancaster County Workforce Investment Board presented on the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. (a.k.a. The Federal Stimulus Money).
Like many other communities across the country, Lancaster County received federal stimulus funds. They received $1,876,000. Of this amount, 75% must be spent on training and all the money must be spent by June 30, 2010.
Lancaster County’s goal and strategy is to improve the skill level of the local workforce. They intend to use the stimulus funding to fill gaps and connect elements of the existing system.
What does all this mean to your business? The Stimulus money requires the county to focus on pre-employment training (both hard and soft skills). This may include: forklift driving, heavy equipment operation, administrative support, IT training, etc. They do this by issuing certificates to people who go through the Ready2Work Program.
While the stimulus money is allocated to states and counties with the intention of getting people back to work, because so much money is available, many programs for retraining have plenty of resources. Employees should be able to get a more talented workforce as a result of the stimulus funds.
For instance, in Pennsylvania we have a training grant called WEDnetPA. This grant provides $450 annually per person for training. They also have an additional $850 available if the employee is going for IT training. This program has a lot of dollars available to impact your current employees.
If you would like more information about the Stimulus Plan on have to get training dollars, please contact me.
It is great that people are thinking about the environment and working to make the world a safer place. Not only the materials that you are using on your home are safe for the environment but dump trucks have come a long way since the earlier models. We are learning and expanding and coming up with a wide range of safer more effective vehicles for the work force. I think it is great that many auto manufacturers are turning to hybrid vehicles to protect the environment and now they are even using hybrid dump trucks.
