I am currently in Salt Lake City, Utah, attending the 2008 Partner Leadership Conference. Our firm has been a member of IGAF for about 10 years and this week is a key leader’s conference. Firms from all over North America (and many from around the world) get together to share best practices, compare metrics and learn how to build a better firm for the future.
One of the things
McKonly & Asbury does well is learning from others. I think great organizations and great leaders understand that you cannot know everything. Interaction with other business leaders and peer groups can be very enlightening. We believe we can always learn from others. Also, when we add the International component to learning – this is just a bonus.
The accounting profession is having many discussions about IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) which would replace GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). This topic is a post for another day!
Some common themes among all the firms are they see a slowing economy; they have many clients delaying projects, laying off employees… Let’s hope that this downturn does not last long, but I suspect it will be a year before it improves much.
