One of the family businesses that I serve is Seltzer’s Smokehouse Meats. This company has been around since 1902 and has managed to stay in the Seltzer family for all 100 plus years. That is no small feat as most family owned businesses never make it past the 2nd generation.
This company has a great brand and is known for a “secret” Lebanon Bologna recipe which is smoked in outdoor wooden smokehouses and slow-cured over hand-tended hardwood fires.
The company recently had a visit by Mike Rowe of the hit TV show, Dirty Jobs. Making the actual bologna is not very dirty, but the smokehouse pits certainly are. As Mike states, “there is always a pit.” The episode first aired on January 6th, but is going to be shown again on Tuesday, January, 13th at 8:00 pm EST.
This is a great family business and I am proud to serve them. The episode will make you laugh and it will help you understand how this business has thrived for over 100 years. These are good, hard-working people!
