Today I had the privilege of visiting the Murata Business Center, which is a regional business incubator. The center is owned and operated by CREDC, The Capital Region Economic Development Corporation. Karen Gunnison is the executive director and you can follow her on Twitter at http://twitter.com/MurataBizCenter.
The center is a facility which is designed to house around 30 businesses through flexible office and light manufacturing spaces. The start up businesses remain in the supportive environment of the incubator for three to five years. Business counseling is provided by several business development organizations. An associate client program is available to businesses operating from the home and not yet ready for a lease, but need the services and address of a professional business.
Murata has an amazing track record of graduating businesses from the center and has created hundreds of jobs as a result. As I watch our government try to stimulate the economy, I wish they would invest more money in business incubators as this is how unemployment numbers are reduced.
